YOUTH BASKETBALL. YMCA utilizes volunteer coaches to focus on participation and fun! While basic skills of the game are developed through practices and games, every child learns sportsmanship and values necessary to be successful in life. Every game begins with a Youth Sports Pledge and ends with a handshake. The YMCA Youth Sports Program helps kids become not only become better players, but better people as well.

Y-Ball is an opportunity for boys and girls of all abilities and backgrounds to play recreational basketball in a safe, fun, and nurturing environment. Every player plays equally in Y-Basketball regardless of their position or individual ability. Teammate and coach requests now accepted!
Dr. James Naismith was given the challenge of creating a game that could be played indoors during the cold winter months. Hanging simple peach baskets and using a soccer ball, Naismith created the game of basketball and wrote the first 13 rules of the game. Youth Basketball Leagues. YMCA Thunder Basketball. From James Naismith’s invention of basketball at the Y in 1891 to today, the Y has a rich tradition in sports played around the globe. We nurture the potential of youth through sports programming by strengthening character, engaging families and building lasting relationships. We are pleased to partner with the Oklahoma City Thunder to further our mission within our youth basketball league, now called the YMCA Thunder Basketball League.

The YMCA of Lincoln offers basketball programs that help youth develop and discover their potential through relationships, teamwork, and healthy competition. Youth basketball is one of the premier youth sports programs offered by the Y.
Our Youth Basketball leagues at the Y are held during the summer and winter. YMCA league games are played at the A.J. McClung and D.A. Turner YMCAs. For our Smith Station league, it is held only during the winter. League games for Smith Station are played at Smith Station High School.
Recreational Basketball (Ages 6 – 11) From dribbling, to lay-ups, to free throws, the YMCA’s non-competitive youth basketball program teaches the fundamentals of basketball and provides kids ages 5 to 11 with a positive basketball experience.
